The Evolution Institute uses evolutionary science - the science of change - to solve real-world problems. Through the passionate involvement of world class scientists we explore and apply cutting edge research to education, community development, quality of life across nations and state, economics and groups.
About This Cause
The Evolution Institute, headquartered in Tampa, Florida, is a non-profit research and policy organization with a global presence that seeks to understand and solve humanity’s most critical problems. We bring together international scientists and scholars from many disciplines to conduct research, start pilot projects, and develop policy recommendations. Our work is based on a scientific, cultural evolutionary perspective that recognizes the complexity of our biggest challenges as we seek practical solutions to sustain and improve the quality of life for all. Consequently, our mission is to apply science-based solutions and use evidence-based best practices to solve today’s most pressing social issues to improve quality of life. EI is different from many non-profits and think tanks. While others are focused primarily on policy recommendations, we have expanded our efforts to include applied practice in neighborhoods and nations. WE'RE A THINK TANK THAT DOESN'T JUST THINK - WE THINK: We undertake original research both theoretical and applied; we hold workshops with leading scientists from around the globe; we publish in leading journals to share information and to advance the sciences; WE SAY: A quiet voice is not heard. Through our media outlets, workshops, and direct communications, the voices of science are heard in an effort to influence policy and program decisions that can lead to a better quality of life. WE DO: Applied work provides the laboratory to improve quality of life. Combining theoretical work with best practices, and working in collaboration with practitioners, we create models that can empirically demonstrate the value of applying this science. 2023-2024 PROJECT HIGHLIGHTS East Pasco Academy: By bringing the best of what science tells us about how young minds learn, we launched a second early learning center in August 2020 – at the peak of the pandemic – to provide early learning opportunities for a marginalized farm working community in Florida. EPA thrived to add an infant program in 2023, and in 2024 began a successful fundraising campaign to build a K-5 primary school on its premises. Elevating Quality of Life: Norway and Mondragon, Spain: We have looked to Norway and Mondragon, in the Basque region of Spain, for an education for elevating quality of life, as evidenced by metrics on the United Nations Human Development Index and the Gini Coefficient. In 2023, we introduced our international collaborators to one another in Oslo, where they had an engaging dialogue on political democracy and workplace democracy. Democracy Bottom-Up – Building a Dialogue between Civil Society and Politicians: Following the co-sponsored June 2023 Warsaw Summit, we continue to work alongside the European Movement International to improve the quality of life in Poland. As our work in Poland continues in Spring 2025, before the Fall presidential election, to promote strengthening democratic institutions and organizations, the rule of law, and a free press, we’re similarly looking to work in Italy. Italy — the birthplace of fascism with a present government showing some lineage to its fascistic roots — interestingly has strong, vibrant cooperatives. Regions such as Emilia Romagna with its thousands of co-op businesses, provide democracy in the workplace and bottom-up community development that has similarities to what we see in Mondragon.
