Alive & Kickin is a non-profit organization that REDEFINES AGING, HONORS SENIORS and INSPIRES EVERYONE!
About This Cause
Alive & Kickin’s mission is to to redefine aging, honor senior citizens and inspire both performers as well as audience members alike by giving voice to senior citizens through vocal performance. Founded in 2010 by Ivey-award winning, Director/educator Michael Matthew Ferrell as a touring performance ensemble, the company, now comprised of 34 members ages 65-93 “years young”, engages audience members. In 2015, we strategically joined the Cora McCorvey Health & Wellness Center (CMHWC) as “Partners” and residents in North Minneapolis, where we are joined by 9 other senior-service providers who work together in serving the community. Over the years we have steadily expanded our programing and now provide 4 additional arts access/arts learning programs including SingOUT!. The program allows us the unique opportunity to bring music education and personal expression to community members who are primarily disabled, African American senior citizens while at the same time helps us expand our mission of “giving voice” to a growing group of people most often forgotten about.
