Mission Statement
Encourage the balancing of mind, body, and soul in girls and women by providing nurturing experiences that enlighten their paths and empower their future.
About This Cause
Honey Shine, Inc. is an all-girls empowerment program for girls ages 5-25 from underprivileged communities. Honey Shine girls Daisies (grades 1st-5th), Tulips (grades 6th-8th) and Roses (grades 9th-12) are exposed to life skills, educational and academic enrichment activities. The Post-High (ages 18-25) alumni are provided with college and career readiness support services. Honey Shine is committed to bridging academic, social, and emotional gaps through interactive sessions in nontraditional settings. S.E.L.F. Enrichment Model: To ensure our girls receive the same programming, Honey Shine created the S.E.L.F. model (STEAM, Empowerment, Literacy, and Fitness). Each program covers the four components and adjusts to meet the needs of the girls according to age. This model also guides the impact that the program has on the girls. Given the socio-economic background of our participants, workshops and summer camp provides two free meals. For 13 years, Carnival Foundation has funded the success of our programs and continues to invest in our girls! Honey Shine Programs empower over 200 girls in the following settings: Camp Honey Shine: Camp Honey Shine is a six week day camp open to girls from the Miami-Dade and Broward Counties held at Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart. Camp brings in a variety of guest speakers, theatre and dance instructors, teaches girls how to swim, engages in science activities, and creates a safe space for social emotional learning. In 2019, Honey Shine received a five year contract for Camp Honey Shine from the Children’s Trust! Camp Honey Shine 2019 had over 175 girls enrolled and provided over 8,400 meals(breakfast and lunch). After School Programs: After School Programming is held three-to four times a week, between September and May in the Miami Dade County Public School system. There are 20 participants enrolled in every school. Barry University CARE Center provides the Alonzo and Tracy Mourning High School with the CHAMPS Program, free of cost! During the 2018-2019 school year, our after-school programs had a 97% retention rate. Aspire to Shine Workshops: Workshops are held bi-monthly between September and May for five hours on Saturdays. Workshops are held at partnering locations such as the YWCA and the Overtown Youth Center. The workshop have brought in countless volunteers and has 75 girls enrolled in the program. Honey Shine gave over $9,000 in scholarships to 14 graduating seniors in June 2019!
