About This Cause
The charity Red Eye founded the Youth Mentor initiative, the Watts Empowerment Center and TEDxWatts. It has been featured in publications ranging from Forbes, InStyle, People, BET, Entertainment Tonight, Cosmopolitan, Daily Mail, Hollywood Life, HuffPost, Modern Luxury, Teen Vogue, Us Weekly, TMZ, and Success Magazines. It has partnerships and been honored by the United Nations, UNICEF, Young G8 Summit and The White House, as well as by Presidents Barack Obama, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton amongst other world leaders. Global Chapters of Red Eye are located in LA, NYC, Vegas, London, Paris and Sydney. Serving consistently for 16 years what is labeled as “the poorest and least educated housing project in Los Angeles,” now the Watts Empowerment Center is “The #1 Most Active CommUNITY Center in Los Angeles." This is remarkable understanding it is run on the generosity of $20 donations, volunteers and the locals running everything. “For the past 16+ years Red Eye has empowered over 5,500 volunteers, connecting them to 15,000+ children, youth and families in need. We have done this through dedicating over 250,000 hours to 750+ projects, and by collaborating with 57 non-profits and 42 consumer brands, changing our community in the process." The non-profit, Elevate Hope, Inc (D.B.A.: Watts Empowerment Center / Red Eye) has received the coveted non-profit award "Platinum Seal of Transparency" from GuideStar and 100%, 4-Star Rating from Charity Navigator! This is further validation of the 16-year track-record and results that have led to receiving their highest award. The Watts Empowerment Center is “The #1 Most Active CommUNITY Center in Los Angeles.” This 12,900 sq ft state-of-the-art facility committed to the children, youth, and families within Watts Housing Projects. These 3.3 acres are the heartbeat of the community. Locals can discover their purpose and develop their talents with the help of top industry and business professionals that provide mentorship to many within the community. Resources offered range from Sports Leagues, After School Tutoring, STEM Media Lab, Culinary Arts Kitchen, Performing Arts Studio, Music, Acting, Fashion Design, Etiquette Courses, Resume Building Workshops, Anti-Bullying Classes, Mental Health/Stress Management, and beyond.
