Mission Statement

The mission of TransLatin@ Coalition is to advocate for the specific needs of the Trans Latin@ community that resides in the U.S.A. and to plan strategies that improve our quality of life.

About This Cause

The TransLatin@ Coalition (TLC) was founded in 2009 by a group of Two-Spirit, Transgender, Gender nonconforming, and Intersex (2TGI) immigrant women in Los Angeles, California, as a grassroots response to address the specific needs of TGI Latin@ immigrants. Since then, the agency has become a national organization with representation in 10 different states across the U.S., and provides direct services to all 2TGI individuals in Los Angeles. In 2015, TLC identified the urgent need to provide direct services to empower the 2TGI community in response to structural, institutional, and interpersonal violence, and the Center for Violence Prevention and Transgender Wellness was born. Since then, the organization has secured funding from state and local government entities as well as private foundations to provide direct services to all TGI individuals in Los Angeles County. TLC’s primary focus is to advocate for 2TGI communities across the U.S. and in addition to providing direct services to the local 2TGI community in LA, we've recently expanded to provide services in Orange County, CA. Even our fundraisers are designed to foster resilience, community, and hope. GARRAS is our annual fashion show, and the inaugural Walk4Humanity (W4H) is a 2-mile walk and celebration of 2TGI lives, in the face of increasing hostility towards 2TGI individuals. TLC provides the following services for our 2TGI community: - Advocacy: addressing the needs and issues of our community by working with local and national organizations to change the landscape and improve the livelihood of 2TGI people - Leadership development: specifically designed to provide 2TGI individuals with the needed tools to successfully advocate for policy change - Economic and Workforce Development: skills-building related to entrepreneurship and seeking employment - Case management and Peer Counseling Services - Drop-In Center that provides daily food distribution, clothing, hygiene products - English as a Second Language (ESL) classes - Computer lab - Legal services - Mental health services - Reentry services - HIV Education and Prevention - Transitional Housing (HOPE House). As an organization, we are building Trans Power!
