HANDS is a non profit organization with a short term goal of upgrading neonatal icu's in Ethiopia and a long term goal of establishing a state of the art neonatal ice in Ethiopia by collaborating with like minded organizations.
About This Cause
Horn of Africa Neonatal development Services, "HANDS", is a non profit organization founded in Houston, Texas in October 2010. Neonatal care in Ethiopia is almost nonexistent with 10x more chance of dying in the first month of life if born in Ethiopia as compared to US. Goal: - HANDS has specific short-term goal of helping upgrade already existing neonatal ICUs all over Ethiopia by providing equipments and education. - It also has a long-term goal of helping build state-of-the-art neonatal ICUs in Ethiopia in collaboration with different organizations. Summary of the activity: - HANDS has already been working with Jimma medical school, located at western part of Ethiopia. - A team of doctors, nurses, and respiratory therapists has been going to Jimma and been donating equipments and provide services and education. The goal is to have as many teams as possible to provide continuity of the intended activity and expand it to other region of Ethiopia. At present time, we already have teams of medical professionals volunteering for this task. - HANDS has a website where general news is spread to the public. But, more importantly, the website will have a section that has education material including treatment guidelines for different neonatal pathologies. - HANDS will continue to collect and send neonatal equipments and education materials.
