Harlem Grown's mission is to inspire our youth to live healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability and nutrition.
About This Cause
Harlem Grown’s mission is to inspire youth to lead healthy and ambitious lives through mentorship and hands-on education in urban farming, sustainability, and nutrition. Since healthy habits start young, we target low-income Harlem youth ages 5-18 across our programming. Today, the organization operates 14 urban agricultural sites, weekly farm stands, 7 immersive school partnerships, a 5 day-a-week after-school program, weekly Saturday programming from April to October, a 7-week Summer Camp, farm-based education tours for hundreds of schools and community organizations, monthly community events, and a Mobile Teaching Kitchen that travels throughout Harlem to carry out our mission. As we continue to introduce children from urban settings to sustainable growing practices that extend beyond our farm-based education programming, we cultivate a sense of membership in an environmentally conscious, sustainable community. At Harlem Grown, we work alongside our community to support and empower them to lead healthy lives.
