About This Cause
Share the Spirit Foundation is a volunteer organization that has provided over 22,000 pair of new shoes and socks to children in the greatest need since 2003. Shoes are a basic need that impacts health and wellness. We believe youth who are allowed to select a new pair of shoes with dignity and the help of a caring volunteer walk away with not only a smile, but a new sense of pride. We work hand-in-hand with schools and community agencies, always keeping in mind compassion for those less fortunate. We hold in-store events that allow the children to shop on their own. For some, this is their first time shopping in an actual shoe store. In addition to holding in-store events, we have created a number of Shoe Clozets, containing hundreds of pairs of shoes for those in immediate need. The first Shoe Clozet was opened in 2014 at a homeless shelter. Since then, we have identified other areas of need with Shoe Clozets now serving students in several Illinois school districts. The Clozets give the school staff the opportunity to promptly fill the needs of new shoes to students. The shoe inventory is kept at the school and is monitored and replenished several times through the year. Share the Spirit Foundation holds fundraisers throughout the year to support our mission of providing new shoes and socks to underserved children. Most events are centered around delicious food and drink pairings, while highlighting local entertainment and local businesses as part of our silent/live auctions. STS has also been fortunate to receive funding from local grants. We recently added an impact area to our website encouraging teachers and caregivers who have been a part of our shoes for kids programs to provide information about the impact on learning, physical ability, mental attitude and school attendance of the students. Our goal in gathering this information is to: 1. Better meet basic needs of students to allow teachers and caregivers to focus on expanding their education. 2. Help support the emotional and mental well-being of students. 3. Help reduce stigma and negative effects of income disparities in the learning environment. 4. Expand our offerings to older students who are often left out of local community services due to age, sigma and family responsibilities. We are strictly a volunteer organization and 100% of all proceeds go towards our mission. Shoes bring a smile along with pride and joy to each child.
