Mission Statement
AFCA is a non-profit organization that helps HIV+ children, their HIV+ guardians and HIV+ pregnant women in sub-Saharan Africa who have no other access to aid. AFCA provides critical AIDS and related medications, medical equipment and supplies, livestock, seeds, trainings, nutritional supplements, sanitation, and emergency supplies that are requested by the institutions in our targeted areas. Currently, AFCA is working in Kenya, Malawi, Uganda, Zimbabwe and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
About This Cause
AFCA is focused on children affected and/or infected by AIDS who lack access to appropriate medical care and sustainable food solutions in areas few organizations venture to. We're a nimble organization able to fill a void by providing medicine; medical and educational supplies; medical and educational equipment; training in agriculture and, husbandry; training in various skills including: tailoring, hairdressing, welding, and bee keeping; small livestock for families to eat and create a business; seeds for families to plant and eat, while selling excess to other community members; latrines and hand washing stations to families; and solar lamps and water filters to each beneficiary in order to keep water borne illnesses away. We do what because we believe that our beneficiaries are capable of taking care of themselves - they simply need someone to walk beside them and help them start. We provide training to families, as well as a hand up so that they can become self-reliant and not needing external help. AFCA also helps orphanages become self-sufficient through the provision of greenhouses and other income generating endeavors along with training (marketing, budgeting, proper management), breaking them out of the cycle of dependency on foreign and other entities. We make sure orphanages and families are food sufficient and able to purchase needed medicine, pay for rent, clothes, and education - this is what we do and we do it well.
