Mission Statement

OPIN is dedicated to increasing the adoption of homeless pets through a suite of animal welfare services including, training, education, adoption and medical programs.

About This Cause

OPIN is an all-volunteer, Stamford, CT based nonprofit organization which utilizes foster homes in the area to provide safety and socialization to the cats and dogs it takes into its care until a permanent home can be found for the animals. Pets come from the community as well as from kill shelters in Connecticut. As well, we provide temporary foster care for pets owned by victims of domestic violence. OPIN has formed a partnership with the Domestic Violence Crisis Center of Stamford (which serves Stamford, New Canaan, Wilton, Westport and Weston), to provide safety for the pets while the abused enters a safehouse in the local area. Pets are then happily reunited with the owner when she/he is ready to start a safe and new life. Other vital programs we offer the community to reduce the number of homeless pets entering shelters are: Educational advice FREE micro-chipping for a quick reuniting with owners FREE weekly dog training for the community Low-cost spay/neuter subsidy program for pit and pit mixes Low-cost referral services for cats and all other breeds of dogs Re-homing services for owned pets when no other alternative is available Medical vet help for seniors, low income and owners in financial hardship
