Mission Statement
The Mission of the Southern Vermont Therapeutic Riding Center is to enrich, educate and expand the lives of individuals with special needs through Equine Assisted Activities & Therapies (EAAT).
About This Cause
In its short history since being founded in 2010, SVTRC has grown from a few initial riders--both children and adults--to successfully working with programs and schools including veterans' programs, the Brattleboro Retreat, Kindle Farm School, The INSPIRE School and local elementary and high schools. Since the fall of 2012, Landmark College has enlisted SVTRC to provide their Equine Assisted Learning classes. SVTRC offers three distinct programs and operates year-round. The three programs are: Therapeutic Riding: Developing riding skills and providing exercise to individuals with physical, cognitive and emotional needs Horsemanship: Learning basic horse care, safety and behavior Vocational Ed: Developing career skills in horsemanship, horse care and behavior While the benefits of Therapeutic Riding have been medically documented, statistics alone cannot fully describe the true value of this service. The look of confidence, pride and achievement on a rider's face when he or she has successfully completed a task is the most profound measure of its value. To put it simply, Therapeutic Riding works and the benefits are ongoing. Signing Up Depending on the individual's needs, participants may schedule a group or private lesson. Participants are required to fill out an application packet prior to signing up for a session--request one now. SVTRC has a weight limit of 185 pounds in order to help our horses remain healthy and sound. This ensures rider safety as well. A participant may sign up for horsemanship lessons and ground work if they exceed this limit. Cost The cost of each session is $60.00 but we ask that participants contribute a minimum of $45.00 for a half hour private or hour group. Contact us for further information and scheduling.
