Mission Statement
All program services are provided free to primary and secondary adult (ages 18+) victims of all forms of sexual violence. We provide a wide range of crisis intervention which encourage survivors to find their best path to healing. We strive to serve all clients professionally and efficiently providing: Crisis Hotline Forensic Exam Accompaniment Resources & Referrals Legal Advocacy Counseling Assistance Family Support Community Education & Outreach Professional Training The staff and volunteers of PRCC respect the uniqueness of each survivor’s experience and path to healing. Consequently, we work from a holistic approach model to empower each survivor to discover the ongoing areas in which she/he needs help. We also realize that the effects of sexual assault are long lasting and ongoing. Many survivors we work with come to us years after an assault, so our support is given whether an assault just occurred or occurred some time ago.
About This Cause
Founded in 2001 as a result of the efforts of the Sexual Assault Task Force, Piedmont Rape Crisis Center (PRCC) is a non-profit adult advocacy agency which serves Banks, Barrow and Jackson Counties. We are here to help and support individuals dealing with sexual assault. We are committed to caring for and empowering victims by providing the services necessary to help them not only survive but succeed following a sexual assault. PRCC provides a wide range of services, geared towards clients' needs and based on a holistic model that encourages survivors to find their best path to healing. We strive to serve all clients professionally and efficiently. Twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, the PRCC crisis hotline provides support and information to victims of sexual assault, their families and friends. The crisis line is supported by trained volunteer advocates and staff. Crisis Hotline. In the state of Georgia, adult victims have the option of a free forensic exam (rape exam), whether they desire law enforcement involvement (an investigation) or not. Trained PRCC staff and volunteer advocates offer exam options, assist in organizing exams, access to forensic exams in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit, and accompany victims to the hospital to offer support and information during the forensic exam process. Exams are preformed by SANE's (Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner), which are trained, certified nurses who collect evidence during a forensic exam (rape kit). We are trained to offer exam options, as well as assisting adults in organizing and having access to a forensic exam in the Piedmont Judicial Circuit. We can offer support and accompaniment to victims throughout the legal process including police interviews, appointments with the Assistant District Attorney, and court hearings. Our organization can provide information, resources and referrals to primary and secondary victims, which can help educate, support and further assist in the healing process. Follow up services consist of phone calls to the client or the client’s guardian, referrals to local health departments for post assault care, individual or group therapeutic services, and any other resources provided to the client. The staff/advocate will periodically call or write a client to check up on their needs and/or healing process. Therapeutic counseling with a licensed therapist can be an integral part of helping victims of sexual violence heal. When funding is available, PRCC can assist with therapeutic counseling sessions by referring clients to a licensed therapist who specializes in sexual trauma. PRCC is available to provide prevention and education services to the community. Upon request, our staff provides in-service presentations and informational sessions on various topics surrounding sexual assault and violence for community members, civic groups, college classes, and churches, etc.
