About This Cause
Oakland Communities United for Equity and Justice (OCUEJ) is a collaboration of grass roots volunteer organizations dedicated to supporting the hungry, homeless and disenfranchised. Programs include Black Panther Founded Aunti Frances' Self Help Hunger Program. Among other things, OCUEJ coordinates and sponsors recurring distribution of hygiene supplies, non-perishable food items, weather gear, water and hot meals for over 500 unhoused community members in North Oakland. Rapid Response networks coordinated by OCUEJ organizations provide immediate shelter and other basic needs for unhoused single mothers, elders, victims of violence and trauma and other high-risk populations. Other fiscal sponsored programs include the Dover Street Edible Garden and Urban Conservation, support for community cooks training and certification, and paid employment for preparing hot meals for OCUEJ clients in need.
