About This Cause

The Scouting programs of the Tecumseh Council serves a five-county area in Ohio which includes Logan, Champaign, Clark, Greene and Clinton Counties. Cub Scouting is available to all boys and girls age 7-11 or in 1st-5th grade, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or financial stature. It is the goal of the Tecumseh Council to provide the opportunity to join Scouting to every eligible child in our service area. Cub Scouting uses age specific handbooks for each grade level in Scouting. Now, Cub Scouting is open to all youth kindergarten-fifth grade. These handbooks have specific requirements and electives that must be completed in order for members to advance in rank. Goals and outcomes can be tracked by the number of Cub Scouts that advance, but advancement alone cannot be the only measurement for success. The Cub Scouting program instills intangible life skills in its members that will last throughout their lifetime. Scouts BSA is available to all boys and girls in separate troops ages 11-18, regardless of ethnicity, religion, or financial stature. Scouts BSA is a “Scout led, Scout run” program. This allows the boys and girls to take responsibility for their decisions. Unit leaders provide guidance and supervision. Scouts BSA uses many avenues to accomplish the ultimate goal of teaching boys and girls the importance of leadership and integrity. Boys and girls operate within a troop and patrol and work together for the betterment of the community. Each boy and girl progresses through the Scouts BSA ranks by working through the Scouts BSA Handbook and completing the required merit badges. Each troop provides a monthly opportunity for Scouts to camp. In Scouts BSA, Boys and girls work through their Scout Handbook in order to achieve their ranks. There are specific merit badges required to move up in rank. Certain leadership positions must also be held in order for Scouts to progress in rank. Outcomes cannot be solely determined by rank advancement. Scouting is more about teaching life skills than rank advancement. The goal of Scouts BSA is to teach boys and girls to be physically strong, mentally awake and morally straight. Exploring is available to all boys and girls age 14-21, regardless of ethnicity, financial stature, religion, or previous Scouting experience. Learning for Life provides life skills as a supplement to public education curriculum. Venturing is a youth development program for young men and women who are 14 years of age OR 13 years of age and have completed the eighth grade and under 21 years of age. Venturing's purpose is to provide positive experiences to help young people mature and to prepare them to become responsible and caring adults, with an emphasis in adventure, leadership, personal growth, and service.
