Mission Statement
The mission of the Clark County Historical Society is to collect, preserve, interpret, and promote resources which provide understanding and appreciation of Clark County's Heritage, and to relate the community's past to the present and its future for the community and its visitors.
About This Cause
The Clark County Historical Society owns over 6,000 linear feet of archival materials including manuscripts, organizational records, personal papers, newspapers, maps, blueprints, and microfilm resources. The Society has over 200,000 objects in its artifact collection. Artifact groups include military items, fashions, furniture, and locally manufactured products such as agricultural implements, International trucks, and a Westcott automobile. Our rich, vibrant history is on display at The Heritage Center. The Heritage Center Museum tells the story of the Heartland- the story of America, Springfield and Clark County. The help, support and spirit of contribution will enable us to preserve our legacy for generations to come. Throughout the museum, life size and life like characters are placed amid the displays. History comes alive at the Heritage Center for students, children, and adults. History can bridge the gap between generations. We engage students, volunteers, veterans, and others in inter-generational learning. Elder residents share their experiences with students using the objects in the museum. Students are encouraged to share their perspectives with adults. The museum stays active with workshops as varied as Preservation, Geneaology, The Veteran's Experience, Continued Education for Teachers and more. Partnerships with community organizations allow us to offer programs for all ages. Through all of our programming and permanent collections and archives we are better able to educate our community and those who visit from around the country on our history.
