About This Cause
In 1948, three local community and business leaders suggested building a baseball field for the White Oak community, located in northwest Cincinnati. The land was donated, funds were raised from local individuals and the people in the neighborhood gathered to cut down trees, build fences, pick up rocks and drag the new baseball field. It was truly a community effort! This visionary idea transformed into the White Oak Athletic Club, that now boasts over 70 years of organized sports. Over the years WOAC has upgraded facilities with forward-thinking projects such as Betsch Fieldhouse to offer new (indoor) sports, plus expanded concessions for better food and drink options. The programs offered are baseball, softball, volleyball and soccer for youth, plus adult baseball and softball. Currently, WOAC is experiencing our highest number of youth sports registrations in the last five years. In Winter 2020/2021, 330 children played on basketball teams. In Spring 2021, 750 children played sports including recreational and select baseball, softball, soccer and volleyball. In Fall 2021, 320 children played soccer and volleyball. With these players, plus their opponents and all spectators, several thousand people visit our facilities each year. WOAC is truly a community-based nonprofit organization providing numerous opportunities for youth and adults to participate on sports teams and enjoy our facilities during games and practices. Our beloved facilities are now at a point where significant improvement projects are required to continue serving our community for both youth and adult sports. These improvements projects include a new pavilion shelter area, new restroom facilities, expanded concessions, a repaired drainage pipe under the main baseball field, new decking and shade structure, upgraded batting cage and pitching bullpen, new fencing, upgraded lights and a new roof and HVAC system for Betsch Fieldhouse. This vision and these improvements will ensure that families in our community are able to gather together and develop athletic skills and camaraderie through sports and recreation for many years to come.
