Mission Statement
The mission of Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth
About This Cause
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Butler County provides caring volunteer mentors to children throughout Butler County. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring is a researched based national model and our agency here in Butler County has been serving children since 1968. We adhere to a specific and strict model of one to one mentoring that will ensure positive outcomes for each of the children we serve. This model has been researched, proven effective and is endorsed as a model program by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) due to solid proof that they have prevented or reduced substance abuse and other related high-risk behaviors in youngsters. The US Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention has endorsed Big Brothers Big Sisters as an "Blueprint" model program that helps mitigate juvenile delinquency. At the heart of our model is proper training, screening and support for all program participants. Each participant in our programs is trained, interviewed, screened and then professionally supported with regular contact by a Big Brothers Big Sisters professional staff member. We have provided mentors to local children since 1968. Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programs are the Gold Standard for mentoring programs across the country. We keep children safe and create positive life-changing relationships for both our children and volunteers. Our program addresses educational success, helping our Little Brothers and Sisters ("Littles") do better in school, stay in school, and develop a sense of the future. Because of their mentor, our Littles are less likely to skip school, do better in school, and are more likely to be able to avoid negative behaviors which may affect their success in school.
