Mission Statement
The Nest is a safe and healing place for Women, Children, and Families in crisis. Our purpose is to give children a chance, victims a voice and families a future.
About This Cause
The Nest - Center for Women, Children and Families is 40+ years strong and is a lifeline for many families within our community. We are a unique organization in that we have FOUR programs which we like to refer to as an holistic approach to the whole family: 1. RESPITE CHILDCARE PROGRAM-for ages birth to five years. We are the only drop in service in Central Kentucky and have a 5-Star rated child care program; the highest level available through the State of Kentucky. 2. DOMESTIC VIOLENCE COUNSELING AND SUPPORT-,individual and group counseling for survivors of domestic violence. As well as, court advocacy for victims that have filed protective orders and an attorney on staff. We serve both english speaking and spanish speaking clients. 3. PARENT EDUCATION AND SUPPORT: Classes for parents that have had their children removed from the home. This is one of the conditions that they must meet to get their child/children back. 4. CRISIS CARE for basic human needs including: food, baby diapers, children’s clothing and personal hygiene items. Our Four Star State rated child care program is one of a kind in that we provide free preschool childcare to parents who are unable to afford it. A mother was able to finish her college degree because The Nest was able to care for her child while she attended classes. A grandmother, caring for her grandson, was able to get some needed respite to go to her doctor’s appointments because we were able to provide her with day care several times a week. Our children that start kindergarten arrive at the same level as children that had paid preschool, thus, all the kids are at least starting out on the same level. We provide individual and group counseling for domestic violence victims, parent education programs, including 24/7 Dads. This past year we developed a wellness recovery program for women in the Fayette County Detention Center to help support these women in making a successful reentry into the community. It is very important to know: All our services are FREE. We rely totally on funding from grants, foundations, and from the community. We rely on donations to help us maintain our budget so that we can serve as many families in crisis as we can.
