About This Cause
The National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA) advances creation, teaching and learning through clay in the contemporary world. Ceramic art connects us to physical and cognitive experiences that foster environments of cultural equity, diversity, access, and inclusion.NCECA convenes and engages people around ceramic art and education to cultivate learning, creativity, leadership, and opportunity through programs, exhibitions, knowledge sharing, research, networking, and mentoring. NCECA impacts and builds community throughout the field of ceramic art since 1966. The organization prioritizes advancements in teaching, learning and art creation. Comprised of more than 4,000 members from throughout the United States and abroad, NCECA benefits individuals through accessible programs, exhibitions and resources. Beyond serving those who register for its conference, NCECA engages with the cultural life of communities that host its annual event through production and promotion of diverse and accessible art experiences, and development of regional networks spanning higher education, K-12, and community centers. The NCECA Annual, NCECA Juried Student Exhibition, and new Multicultural Fellowship Exhibition anchor the 60+ ceramic exhibitions produced in venues throughout the conference region. The annual conference takes place in a different region each year, providing lectures, panels, artist demonstrations, and interactive experiences. Features like Clay Fab Lab share ways that new technologies are impacting creative practice; a Resource Hall (75+ ceramic-related businesses and 120+ schools and organizations); Gallery Expo (free to the public/learning and collecting opportunity); and a national K-12 showcase. Multi-modal sessions include lectures, panels, discussions, networking, hands-on experiences, and demonstrations by artists in a range of formats. NCECA’s board evaluates proposals and selects programming gathered through open calls, and curates sessions highlighting emergent issues, diverse representation, and new practices in formal and informal education. Individuals and organizations exemplifying excellence in teaching, service, singular outstanding achievement, and lifetime accomplishments are recognized annually through NCECA Honors. NCECA partners with New York based 92Y on #GlobalDayofClay and Virtual Clay cyber presentations. NCECA's governance is evolving to advance policies of equity, diversity and accessibility throughout the field.
