About This Cause

The Kentucky Humanities Council was incorporation as a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization in June 1972 as an affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. The Council was formed for educational purposes, to help thinkers, teachers, scholars, and writers develop the humanities as sources of insight into human problems and priorities within the commonwealth of Kentucky and to help increase the understanding, appreciation and use of the humanities among the general public, thereby promoting and sponsoring public programs in the humanities. The Kentucky Humanities Council’s mission is "Telling Kentucky's story" by educating the public about Kentucky's history and culture, building civic engagement, and supporting local humanities programs and events. We tell this story through Kentucky Chautauqua, our Speakers Bureau, Chautauqua in the Schools, Prime Time Family Reading Time, Kentucky Humanities magazine, the Kentucky Book Fair, Reading and Discussion programs, community grants, and other such programs.
