Mission Statement
Championing the rights of all West Virginians for food, housing, and health care. Covenant House of West Virginia is dedicated to working for justice by offering direct services for people in need while creating social change through advocacy and education. Our diverse faith, cultural, and belief traditions unite us in reaching out to those in need, irrespective of race, class, gender, religion, creed, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, disability, or national origin.
About This Cause
We believe poverty can be eliminated by creating genuine wealth and well-being in our community. We commit ourselves to providing direct services, education and advocacy that will help alleviate poverty and reduce suffering for those living in poverty. We believe education is integral to ending the cycle of poverty. We believe every person has the right to food, clothing, a clean and safe place to live, clean water, and access to basic health care. We believe in ethical and responsible stewardship of resources. We believe in leading with integrity that includes equality for all and advocacy of inclusiveness regardless of race, color, gender, national origin, age, religious beliefs, disability, and sexual orientation or identity. We believe in the cultivation of economic security and well-being for our community. We will do this by developing and retaining a core staff of advocates at Covenant House through prioritizing living wages, health care, professional development, and paid time away from work. We believe in healthy and positive partnering/collaborating/organizing with other organizations and projects to build community well-being.
