About This Cause

Homestead Resources was established as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1983 to address the housing needs of individuals and families with low and moderate incomes throughout ten counties across west central Indiana. For over 42 years, Homestead Resources has provided affordable housing services and financial literacy to thousands of individuals and families in Tippecanoe, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Fountain, Montgomery, Putnam, Warren, and White Counties. On an annual basis, the organization impacts over 1,600 individuals and families through a comprehensive suite of affordable housing services including education classes, one-on-one counseling, direct assistance, and affordable housing development. In addition to our affordable housing programs, we also operate the Community Loan Center of West Central Indiana which is one of 20 Community Loan Centers across the nation. We offer this product as an alternative to payday lending programs that cripple the finances of families. The program is a small dollar affordable loan program offered to 55 employers across the state as an employee benefit. The annual impact of this program includes providing loans to over 650 employees in 2024 and helping them meet their emergency financial needs without accumulating thousands and thousands of dollars in payday lending fees. This program has saved families over $14 million in interest that would have devastated their financial health. Homestead Resources is a HUD-certified Housing Counseling Agency offering education and counseling services to all homeowners, potential homeowners, renters, and potential renters regardless of income. The organization is certified by the U.S. Department of Treasury as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) and governed by a 15-member volunteer Board of Directors, with a variety of professional expertise and careers in government, civic and community, private sector industry, as well as program participants. The Homestead Resources vision for the communities we serve is that all individuals and families will be financially educated regarding housing, gain the knowledge and skills to manage financial assets, have access to affordable housing and live in safe, well-maintained neighborhoods. Homestead Resources programs promote affordable housing and strong neighborhoods populated by residents who have the tools needed to live quality lives and who contribute positively to their communities. We ensure that families have access to the financial knowledge they need to achieve and maintain affordable housing.
