Mission Statement
The Tenth Life is a no-kill cat shelter that provides housing, love, and veterinary care to nearly 500 once, homeless cats. The cats live in a home environment rather than in cages. All are spayed/neutered, fully vaccinated, tested for viruses, treated for internal and external parasites. and microchipped. Medical care is provide by a full-time veterinarian, the only paid person at the facility. All other care is provided by approximately eighty-five volunteers. We adopt to responsible owners and provide education at the time of adoption and an information booklet for future reference. Through our on-line and phone education program, we promote neutering and responsible cat ownership. and offer advice on cat behavior problems. With our pet therapy program, the volunteers take cats to visit at nursing homes to provide companionship and unconditional love to the patients. All funding is provided by fund raisers and charitable donations.
About This Cause
The Tenth Life is a 501 (c) (3) organization located in Greene County, near Dayton, Ohio. We are a no-kill cat shelter which means that no cat is put to death unless all treatments have failed to improve the health and quality of life of the cat and there I no alternative. No cat is put to death because it cannot be adopted for health or personality reasons .Our main goal is to place healthy, loving cats with responsible, adoptive owners. Those that are not adoptable live at The Tenth Life until they pass away. The organization is housed in a brick ranch house which provides a home for feline leukemia and feline AIDs positive cats, a health care building which is a fully operational veterinary facility, and two additional buildings that house adoptable cats. In total, nearly five hundred cats live at The Tenth Life at any one time. There are also two dogs that live at The Tenth Life The facility is staffed at all times by one or more volunteers and a full-time veterinarian. The Tenth Life teaches and promotes the benefit of animal companionship for human welfare. Research has proven that animal companions promote mental stability and improved physical health. Further, the burden of unwanted, reproducing stray cats on the streets has been lessened through our adoption and neutering programs. in 2013 nearly two thousand cats were spayed and neutered through our programs and placed in loving homes. Another service is our general public education programs which include private and group tours of the facility to educate both adults and children about proper care of cats and a telephone hotline to assist callers with animal problems with behavior and placement of strays. A quarterly newsletter is distributed to nearly five thousand animal lovers to provide educational information about important animal related topics. The Tenth Life has a pet therapy program that visits nursing homes and care facilities on a monthly basis to enrich the lives of the residents. The elderly, especially the ill patients, enjoy the visits and even smile with the love of a purring cat. In 2013 The Tenth Life became a BBB Accredited Organization.
