Mission Statement

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is a resident ensemble theatre company bringing Shakespeare and the classics to life for all.

About This Cause

Cincinnati Shakespeare Company is a resident ensemble theatre company bringing Shakespeare and the Classics to life for all. Its purpose is to hold the mirror up to nature, fostering empathy in our audience and feeding the dialogue in the larger community. Its vision is to become a world-class Shakespeare institution, serving as the arts destination for the region, with a commitment to the artists, audiences, schools, and communities of Cincinnati. CSC was founded in 1993, and has grown into a permanent fixture in Cincinnati's arts scene. The first season consisted of 5 productions in local venues; today, CSC presents more than 250 performances of 13 productions annually in its downtown theater and through touring productions across the region. In 2017, CSC opened the new Otto M. Budig Theater, anchoring the “Classical Arts Corridor” in Cincinnati’s historic Over-The-Rhine and helping to distinguish the company as the only professional classical theater between Chicago and New Jersey. Concurrent with CSC’s production schedule, the Education Program serves 40,000 students through the academic year and summer camps. Spanning Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky, CSC’s education programs reach more than 200 schools and include educational matinees, in-school tours and workshops, acting classes, summer camp, and PROJECT38 – CSC’s most ambitious program in which CSC artists work with more than 38 schools to co-create original interpretations of all of Shakespeare’s 38 plays. These will also soon include digital formats, and, unbound by geographic location, potentially reach a broader audience than ever before.
