Mission Statement
The mission of Autism Connections is to uplift the Southwest Ohio autism community through education, resources, connections, and lifelong support. We envision a world where autistic individuals and their families are supported, treated with equity, and valued. In everything we do, we go the extra mile for our community, our partners, and each other; we are present, actively listening to others and giving the very best of ourselves; we are partners because we know that we are stronger together; we do the right thing in every situation, even when it’s tough; we are accountable for our actions, own our mistakes and hold ourselves to a high standard; and we are curious, always learning to best support those we serve.
About This Cause
Autism Connections was founded by local parents and professionals in 1971 when autism was rare (1 in 5,000 individuals diagnosed) and frequently misunderstood. It was the first autism nonprofit in the Greater Cincinnati area centered on addressing the unique needs and challenges of individuals and families living with autism. As the prevalence of autism grew – today it is 1 in 36 individuals diagnosed – and as we continued to work at meeting individuals and families where they were in their autism journey, it became clear that we could better serve Southwest Ohio, Northern Kentucky, and Southeastern Indiana as a fully local non-profit organization. Over the last 53 years, we have dedicated our work to supporting families, vetting and sharing resources, and developing community within the autism population, adding programs to enhance this work.
