Mission Statement
Most of our funds come from small donations given each week by Rotarians giving the change from their pockets or purses. However, we are happy to accept larger donations from individuals and foundations. No matter the source of funds, our guarantee is the same. One hundred percent (100%) of donated funds go to cutting edge AD research as required by the by-laws. Through 2021 the Fund raised and awarded $10.2 million dollars in 59 grants to recognized US research institutions. All administrative expenses of the Fund are paid a separate operating fund. The Fund is governed by a Board of Trustees composed of representatives from the Rotary districts that support the program. We are a registered 501(C)3 organization, Federal ID #31-1466051. The Fund is chartered as a nonprofit organization under the laws of the state of South Carolina.
About This Cause
The CART Fund is dedicated to raising funds to provide “seed” money for cutting edge, high impact research in hopes of finding a cure/prevention for Alzheimer’s disease. The goal of the Fund is to encourage exploratory and developmental AD research projects within the United States. This is accomplished by providing financial support for the early and conceptual plans of those projects that may not yet be supported by extensive preliminary data but have the potential to substantially advance biomedical research. These projects should be distinct from those designed to increase knowledge in a well established area unless they intend to extend previous discoveries toward new directions or applications. Starting in one SC Rotary club in district 7770 in 1995, CART has been adopted to date by all Rotary district clubs in Georgia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina, DC, Maryland and Florida as well as a number of individual clubs throughout the United States. Assistance from the American Federation of Aging Research was invaluable in validating CART as a legitimate funding source for Alzheimer’s research. The CART Fund is aided by a World Renown Team of Doctors/Researchers that receive, evaluate and recommend to the Executive Committee the most likely research to have an impact on the mission of finding a cure or prevention for AD. •CART Fund by-laws require that 100% of all donated funds must go to A.D. research. •All contributions are tax deductible. CART is a 501(c)(3) organizations. Tax ID # is 31-1466051. From the beginning, CART has been a novel fundraising program. Rotarians are encouraged to empty their pockets and purses of change, or whatever amount they choose, whenever they attend a Rotary meeting. While the name “CART” stands for “Coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust,” we also welcome contributions of currency, checks or credit cards. As of May 2021, fifty nine grants have been awarded totaling $10,200,000. We welcome cooperate matching funds for any employee who donates. Please ask your employer to match your giving.
