Mission Statement
At Crayons to Computers, we believe that every child deserves the quantity and quality of supplies needed to succeed in school. Our mission is "to serve the educational and imaginative needs of children in the Greater Cincinnati area by providing a unique means to transfer donated, value purchased and created product from businesses and individuals free to teachers to use in their classrooms and schools."
About This Cause
Crayons to Computers was founded in 1997 and today partners with nearly 600 Preschool through Grade 12 schools in 16 counties throughout Ohio, Northern Kentucky and Indiana. Through our Teacher Free Store, Mobile Outreach Programs, and other supporting programs, we aim to bridge the gap for families and schools who do not have the financial ability to provide school supplies to students. We offer a variety of materials that support learning, including basic supplies like crayons, paper, and pencils as well as enrichment and incentive items that teachers can use to motivate or inspire student engagement. Product is donated or purchased at reduced or wholesale prices from partnering companies. Crayons to Computers is the only Teacher Free Store in the Greater Cincinnati area, and since our inception, we have distributed over $141 million worth of school supplies to disadvantaged students in our region. Each school year, we expect to distribute more than $12 million worth of school supplies to nearly 11,000 teachers and 144,000 students. While Crayons to Computers' main program is distributing free school supplies and educational tools to teachers, we continue to operate several supplemental programs to support our operations: --Preschool Program: Through a partnership with 4c for Children we have developed a program for area preschools to apply and shop at our Teacher Free Store. We also work in tandem with 4c for Children to support a coaching/mentoring program to ensure adequate support and access for these programs. --Mobile Outreach Program: In September, 2014 we launched our Impact 100 Mobile Outreach Program, with the goal of implementing an alternative delivery method for free school supplies for teachers currently facing geographic, time and access barriers to our Teacher Free Store. This program reaches nearly 1,400 teachers serving nearly 25,000 students per year. --Volunteer Program: This robust program supports the work in our warehouse, Teacher Free Store, Mobile Outreach Program and other related programs. We engage people from every facet of the community, including companies, religious organizations, schools, and universities. Each year, over 1,900 volunteers donate nearly 20,000 service hours to our organization. --Crafts with Conviction Program: This innovative collaboration with the Ohio Department of Correction and Rehabilitation engages volunteer inmates at 16 prisons to manufacture educational tools such as journals, cut-outs for bulletin boards, and other classroom needs.
