About This Cause
Ely Chapman Education Foundation (ECEF), a 501(c) 3 organization was founded to provide excellent academically-oriented educational programming to youth in the Mid-Ohio valley. The S.U.N.S.H.I.N.E. Learning Station (SLS) and Middle School Program (MSP), the flagship programs of the foundation, provide after school enrichment, mentoring, homework help and reinforcement of basic skills. Summer's Sensational Summer Camp (SSC) provides both academic and physical activities using hands-on learning. SSC runs from June - Mid August, starting at 7:30 AM and closing at 5:45 PM daily except July 4th. Each week has a different theme, thereby allowing parents/guardians and campers to choose those subjects or activities that interest them the most. Many children come for the whole summer. SLS, MSP and SSC are the only after school/ summer programs that accept and work with Special Needs children or English Language Learners. These children are incorporated into the normal activities with the typical children, helping all students develop good social skills. ECEF provides a Youth Theatre Program, a non-audition based program that allows students to write the plays and learn all aspects of theatre, not just acting. ECEF has a Karate Program that promotes positive behaviors and teaches how to deal with bullying in a non-violent manner. Boy Scout Troop 231, the largest in the local council is sponsored by ECEF. The Living Rivers Cafe, licensed by the Ohio Dept of Agriculture, provides meals to the O'Neill Adult Day Care Center, the Child and Adult Care Program after school supper, the Summer Food Service Program to any child 1 to 18, and meals to the public in general. In all ECEF programs Respect and Responsibility are the main rules so all children learn the importance of self-respect and self responsibility, two character traits that will hopefully help the students become independent learners and good stewards of their city, their community and their environment..
