Mission Statement
The mission of M-POWER Ministries is to help people develop the tools they need to break the cycle of poverty through education and health services.
About This Cause
M-POWER’s mission helps individuals break the cycle of poverty. The lack of access to a quality K-12 education greatly diminishes the opportunities of individuals and families to break out of poverty. To address this, M-POWER provides educational programming with a personalized curriculum to address each student’s needs. This allows them to not only gain a GED, but also workforce training and personal financial skills. Importantly, this personalized approach is highly successful in not only helping the student, but in impacting the student’s entire family unit. Young adults who lack a basic education struggle to gain employment. M-POWER provides innovative and comprehensive academic training taking students from functional illiteracy to literacy, as well as giving GED and Ready to Work training. The result is the establishment of a path out of poverty for many of the clients of M-POWER. The ongoing educational programs available through the M-POWER Education Center include the following: Adult Basic Education (ABE) program, for students who score below a 4th grade level on the assessment test; Literacy Academy for individuals whose initial assessment scores fall between 4th and 6th grade level equivalents; GED program for students who score above a 6th grade level; and Life Skills classes including Computer Skills and Financial Literacy. Classes are offered year-round using a classroom model with volunteer teachers. The timeline for program implementation is individualized. Students are systematically and regularly assessed using the Wonderlic GAIN test to evaluate learning and establish plans of study. The career readiness program includes soft skills training, including workplace safety, workplace violence, diversity and sexual harassment workshops, resume writing, and interviewing skills; and WorkKeys™ assessments. Students learn how to research, locate, and secure employment; and learn how to retain employment and advance to higher positions.
