Mission Statement

IslandWood's mission is to provide exceptional learning experiences and to inspire lifelong environmental and community stewardship.

About This Cause

IslandWood offers hands-on, residential outdoor learning experiences for 4th through 6th grade children, focused on transferring foundational scientific and environmental stewardship concepts on our 255-acre campus on Bainbridge Island. Our urban day-long programs reach 4th - 8th graders in Seattle and Woodinville, WA and focus on increasing understanding of humans in the ecosystem, particularly around watersheds through outdoor study in school yards, neighborhood natural areas, and at a water treatment plant. In partnership with the University of Washington, we offer a graduate program in Education for Environment in Community. Additionally, IslandWood convenes annual Action Summits related to education, the environment, and health, as well as hosts community educational and arts events.
