Mission Statement

The mission of CASA of Adams & Broomfield Counties to provide specially selected and trained community volunteers, CASA volunteers, to advocate for abused and neglected children in the pursuit of safe and permanent homes with a long-term goal to help create thriving and successful adults.

About This Cause

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) is a volunteer-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that recruits, trains and supervises community volunteers, CASAs, to represent the best interests of child victims of abuse and neglect that are currently in the judicial system. CASA Volunteers are ordinary citizens doing extraordinary work. They establish stable relationships with children who have experienced abuse and neglect, getting to know their unique history and making informed recommendations to the courts. CASA Volunteers spend time getting to know the child(ren) and family on their case, and help to ensure each child’s physical, mental, educational, and social-emotional needs are being met. They provide invaluable information to the Judge about the child’s life, and speak on behalf of the child in court, advocating for their best interests. The desired result is that children have a safe and permanent home where they can thrive. Research has shown that children with a CASA Volunteer are: More likely to find a safe, permanent home More likely to succeed in school Half as likely to re-enter the foster care system. As part of their role in the court process and as an adult connection for youth, CASA Volunteers also advocate that families have adequate resources to succeed in properly caring for children and providing a stable home. Whether youth reunite with their parents, go to live with relatives, are adopted, or emancipate from the system, CASA Volunteers are there every step of the way to be an advocate and a consistent adult connection who is truly concerned about their best interest and ultimate success. Each year in Adams and Broomfield Counties, there are approximately 1,600 children with open abuse and neglect cases, and CASA provided advocates to 635 of these children last year. The CASA Volunteer Program is the only one of its kind in Adams and Broomfield Counties, providing victim services at no cost to the families, courts, social services agencies, municipalities, or taxpayers. It costs approximately $1,200 per child per year to provide CASA Volunteers, which includes costs for community outreach, recruitment, screening, training, professional supervision and support of CASA Volunteers. The success of the CASA Program and its ability to serve more children depends on broad and continual recruitment of quality volunteers and financial support from the community.
