About This Cause
A staff of 17 and over 300 dedicated volunteers carry out the mission of BHH to provide food, medical, and financial assistance to meet basic human needs as well as education, job training, and guidance to create self-sufficiency. Background and History Boca Helping Hands (BHH) serves the economically challenged, culturally diverse population of South Florida. Founded in 1998 by a group of local volunteers in response to the growing challenge of hunger and poverty in our community, BHH provides food, financial assistance and job-training to the underprivileged. We are located at 1500 NW 1st Court, Boca Raton in the Remillard Family Resource Center. Focusing on the “whole person,” the various programs of BHH are well integrated to meet the needs of individuals, children and families, with the goal of creating self-sufficiency. For the 13th consecutive year, BHH has been awarded a 4 star Charity Navigator rating. Resource Center: Offers referrals to other agencies as well as limited financial help for Boca Raton residents in crisis. Job Mentor Program: Clients attend a mandatory Orientation classes, volunteer Job Mentors assist the client with preparation of a resume, online job search, interview skills, given computer and other classes or skills that would help the client in their job search. Job Training Program: Six (6) free training programs where students learn the skills necessary to work in their chosen occupation. The programs are Hospitality, Home Health Aide, CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant), CDL (Commercial Driver’s License), Customer Service Representative and IT Help Desk Technician. Each class is preceded by a one (1) week course called Job Readiness, provided at BHH. Lunch Program: A hot, lunch isserved six (6) days each week, Monday through Saturday, with a Family Night Dinner on Thursday evenings. Pantry Program: Serves qualified Palm Beach County residents and distributed in our Food Center Mon through Saturday, Saturday mornings in west Boca at Boca Glades Baptist Church parking lot, 10101 Judge Winikoff Road, Boca Raton, FL 334280. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday at our Boynton Beach satellite distribution site at First Baptist Church of Boynton Beach 301 N. Seacrest Blvd. We distribute 5,000+ pantry bags each month and deliver 4,000+ meals (including pantry bags), per year, to local housebound shut-ins. BHH Backpacks Distributing the “Backpack” program in 10 elementary schools where we send backpacks home to 1,000 children every Friday, 33 weeks of the school year. The backpacks contain six (6) meals, two (2) juice boxes, two (2) shelf stable milks, and three (3) snacks.
