Mission Statement

Sugartree Ministries’ mission is to support those in need. This support takes many forms, including six hot meals per week (provided by local churches and civic organizations); groceries one day per week (provided by local grocery stores and donations from community); emergency shelter for approximately a dozen individuals; personal necessities (including mattresses and winter clothing); necessities for employment (clothes, identification, transportation); rent and utility assistance; employment (through our landscaping business); and addiction support. We also connect those in need to specialized mental health, addiction and housing services.

About This Cause

Sugartree Ministries started in the late 1990s in Wilmington, Ohio. Originally founded to feed the hungry and as a music venue. During its first decade, Sugartree was relatively small and discreet, but after DHL, a major employer, pulled thousands of jobs out of the community, things changed. After 60 Minutes aired a story on Wilmington which featured Sugartree, Rachel Ray threw her support behind by hosting her show’s Thanksgiving special at the Ministry. Sugartree has continued to help those in need by expanding its services over the past decade in an attempt to combat the increasing mental health and addiction crisis that plagues much of the country.
