Mission Statement
We are proud to work in tandem with our community to champion the development of literacy through tutoring, Little Free Libraries, literacy outreach and guaranteeing book access for all of our neighbors. As of May 20, 2022 we are now doing business as Queen City Book Bank, adding a signature curated book distribution program to our legacy suite of services.
About This Cause
Literacy Services include: Little Free Libraries: These mini libraries are available to any neighborhood in need of book access in and surrounding the Cincinnati/Northern KY area. We currently have 160 LFLs (and 40 more to place) in: Hamilton, Butler, Clermont, Adams, and Warren counties in Ohio and in Kenton, Campbell and Boone counties in Kentucky. Since 2018, we have given away over 130,000 free books thanks to partnerships and book donations from our community. In addition to the many book donations we receive, we are listening to the neighborhoods our LFLs are in and ensuring we provide them with books that fit their needs. With our new facility and dependable weekly volunteers, we have the ability to curate these books more than ever before. Children’s Tutoring (K-6th): This year, we have trained, background checked and placed over 900 new tutors for children. Adult Tutoring: This volunteer-based program teaches basic reading skills to students reading at or below the 4th grade level. We also continue to connect adults to resources in their neighborhood that can offer them help if we cannot. Queen City Book Bank’s (QCBB) Curated Book Distribution Program: QCBB's signature book distribution program allows teachers to access the online portal and select new books of interest to their students at an appropriate level. We will work to strategically grow the program and at scale will serve the resourcing needs for 35,000 k-6th grade students who lack reliable, targeted book access. Literacy Outreach: Our 20,000 sq. foot office and warehousing space serves as a hub of information and outreach to parents, educators, partner organizations and volunteers. This added level of engagement helps bridge the information gap for families and enhance home learning. Leveraging an educational opportunity for visitors radically transforms the literacy landscape encouraging more tutors, book drives, LFLs and awareness. Most importantly, it creates a lasting impact for our community.
