Mission Statement

The Gowanus Dredgers Canoe Club is a volunteer organization that is dedicated to providing waterfront access and education to the public. Our headquarters are on the Gowanus Canal in Brooklyn but our Activity Committee programs also provide free paddling on the shorelines of Long Island City, Red Hook, Staten Island.

About This Cause

Our programs are free and open to the public. We offer activities in Estuary Promotion, Habitat Restoration, Environmental Education and promote paddle sports as a healthy activity in an urban environment. Our regular activities include: Estuary Discovery Tours Individual canoe tours on the Gowanus Canal Classroom and Site Visit Education Lectures and exercises to create solutions for a clean harbor Brooklyn Waterfront Tour Guided tours of Gowanus Canal, Red Hook, Brooklyn Heights shorelines Brooklyn Waterfront Bicycle Tour Narrated tour of a ten-mile section of the South Brooklyn shoreline Lighten Up Brooklyn Exercise Voyage Promote cardiovascular activity as a means to stay healthy in Brooklyn
