Mission Statement
Animal welfare organization focused on saving animals in Romania and since the war started, in Ukraine too.
About This Cause
Romanian League In Defense of Animals (ROLDA USA) was registered in 2006 as a 501-c-3 charity to raise awareness and vital support in the US for homeless and abused animals in one of the poorest regions from Romania. We have administrative branches operating on 3 continents, in countries like Australia, America, several European countries including, of course, Romania. In Galati region, ROLDA built and manages 2 shelters for dogs and 1 shelter for senior and disabled cats. ROLDA runs several education campaigns and social programs to raise awareness and to assist financially the impoverished dog owners, supporting the emergency vet costs, sterilization, or food aid. Since the war started, ROLDA is distributing small grants and humanitarian aids to a dozen of rescuers across Ukraine. The COVID crisis followed immediately by the consequences of the war (happening 8 km from our shelters located at the Romanian border with Ukraine) have strong effects on social and economic levels, making charitable work difficult. We struggle but we don't give up to thousands of animals that depend on us every day. More, when we got request for aid from smaller shelters in danger of closing down, we decided to share the little we have and currently, ROLDA supports with small, repeated grants 7 shelters in Romania. We are in dire need of compassionate corporate partners to help us financially to: 1. Continue rehoming program in the UK, Sweden, Switzerland and US, where we have partners that monitor the adoptions (pre and after home checks, relocate the dog if adoption fails from any reason) 2. Reach more animals in need of immediate medical assistance and sheltering. We are more then grateful to receive skilled volunteers for building repair or companies to make donations-in-kind gifts (donation of products: dry or canned food, veterinary supplies, first aid, building materials, consumables for shelter (disinfectant, cleaning) 3. Partners for new projects: rescue abused donkeys, or horses who could become victims of abuse or illegal meat industry Our team is happy to get in touch with you and respond to any question you might have. Please contact Dana at rolda@rolda.org for general questions or Mary Frances Duffy at 917-854-6580 for corporate partnership within US. Printz was a victim of illegal dog fighting who had been abandoned after suffering severe injuries. My family and I nursed Printz back to health and gave him a loving home. He lived with us for four years until he passed away. Printz changed my life. After his passing, I resolved to start a charity dedicated to helping abandoned and abused dogs like Printz. Ever since, I have dedicated my life—with the help of others—to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming as many animals as possible." Romania has million of homeless animals, one of the largest stray population in the world. Unfortunately, less than 10% of our donations come from local companies or individuals, which means that we have to rely heavily on international donors to fund our rescue mission and current campaigns. Our sanctuaries have been visited by various animal welfare organizations & individuals from around the World, as well as representatives of corporation partners & the Dutch and the Swiss Embassies. It is regularly inspected by local animal welfare officers. And, of course, our charity is regulated in all the countries where we fundraise. With the generosity of our supporters we have helped thousands of animals to date. There are still thousands more lives we want to reach before it will be too late. We hope you can find it in your heart to help us. Every gift you send will be put to the best possible use to benefit the rescued animals. Thank you for your interest in ROLDA's work! With respect and hope, ROLDA Rescue Team
