Mission Statement
Project Hawai'i, Inc., is a volunteer staffed nonprofit supported by public donations established to enhance the lives of homeless and poverty stricken children. Providing interactive solutions to help these precious children escape their cycle of poverty.
About This Cause
Project Hawai'i, Inc., provides year round services to homeless unsheltered children who live in extreme poverty across the islands of Hawai'i. We provide emergency support, monthly outreach with hygiene bags, food boxes, new clothing and educational support. During the holidays we provide a variety of services, including parties, gifts, meals, to help them feel the joy each holiday brings. Our educational summer camp programs help the children to gain the basic life and social skills they need to succeed in school. Provide the children with interactive programs that help to build self-esteem and open up their ideas of what they can be. After camp we provide each child with a new backpack filled with supplies, new outfit, shoes, hygiene and even their school required gym and t-shirts where needed. Our teen mentoring program provides the teens skills to succeed in school, become employed, and the hope is that each teen will graduate and go to higher educational systems. Teens attend mentoring and leadership programs, workshops and have intern mentors working with them over the summer months. Furthermore, we provide internships and ready to work programs for single moms to help them gain the self-esteem and life skills needed to pull their family out of poverty. Our goal is to build a relationship with these children and their family to give them the hope and the skills to escape their own cycle of poverty. We provide to homeless children on three islands of Maui, O'ahu and the Big Island of Hawai'i year round. With an average reach of 1,600 homeless children during the year. In 2020 we started a transitional housing project on Big Island to allow families the opportunity to transition from homelessness to home ownership. In 2022, we will be opening our first set of dorms to allow for homeless teens to attend college. Our goal is to have 12 young ladies every two years to learn the life and social skills along with leadership programs all while attending college full time working on their future success. All this is done on a volunteer based group of community members who put their heart and soul into helping these families and children succeed.
