Mission Statement
Austin Korean School (AKS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, non-religious and non-political organization providing integrated education developing academic, physical, social and emotional skills through Korean classes since August 15, 1986. For nearly 30 years, AKS has been proudly serving the greater Austin area population by teaching Korean language and culture as well as engaging in various cultural-awareness activities. Through the partnership with the Webb Middle School, AKS is able to serve more than 150 students, both young and adult, per semester with 24 dedicated teachers and help from many generous volunteers from local middle and high school students.

To empower young Korean American generations by exposing them to Korean history and culture through Korean language education To continue to be a reliable educational leader that best serves Korean American generations in Austin and in the central Texas area in teaching Korean language, history, and culture To contribute our cultural expertise to build a better community that values diversity Every Saturday during Spring & Fall semesters, AKS teaches Korean language, history, traditions, & culture through various teaching formats, including traditional dances, music, arts, crafts, etc. AKS approaches each student individually based on their age & proficiency/literacy level. AKS promotes the holistic approach to education by implementing field days, cultural heritage events, and various after- school programs. Workshops and Seminars for community members – Topics including educational support for all aged children & household management strategies for immigrants Korean classes at workplaces Leadership and volunteer opportunities offered to high school students at AKS Administration of Official Korean Language Exams – TOPIK – SAT II Korean Practice Exam Cultural Heritage Events: Celebrations of Lunar New Year’s Day & Chu-Seok (Korean Thanksgiving Day) Korean Schools Associational Events: Speech Contest on “My Dream”, Korean Choir Contest, Korean Writing Contest in honor of Hangul Day (Korean Alphabet Day)
