About This Cause
About Us Community Actor’s Theater is a non-profit all-volunteer theatrical troupe dedicated to providing drama and a creative outlet to the Oak Park region in San Diego, CA. Started in 1982 CAT gives a voice to local playwrights and actors. We provide opportunities to many to showcase their talents. We also offer acting workshop classes to ages 6-96, as well as a monthly Open Mic Night. We produce 6-7 productions, and 2 Children/Youth productions a year. (comedies, dramas, musicals, tragedies, shakespeare) We conduct acting workshop classes for all ages over the age of 5. At the end of each session, the participants do a play or a showcase, to showcase what they've learned in the acting workshop classes. (Children/Youth ages 6-15 & adults, ages 16 & up) Several of the plays we do at Community Actor's Theatre, are written by local Playwrights. Highly involved in these projects are dedicated local directors, actors, stage managers, set designers/builders, costumers, painters, theatre cleaners etc. Drama Instructors are very involved in the Children/Youth Shows we produce. We are a theatre in the community, for the community with a 98-seat handicapped accessible venue that was renovated in 2009. We conduct an "Open Mic Night" on the 4th. Monday of the month at 7pm., for families, friends, and the community, and have done so for several years now. We offer a forum for anyone who wants to perform, so they can do so. It can be singing, poetry, spoken word, story telling, juggling, puppetry, clean comedy, skits, excerpts from a play, sharing current information, drumming, or they can be the audience where they sit and cheer the performers on. Everyone's involved in promoting the shows and events. This summer, "Juneteenth was added to the list of our annual outdoor events. Due to covid-19, our annual productions and events were cancelled for over a year. (March 2020 - June 2021) It shut us down completely, but we are happy to say that we're now open again. We'll never recover from being shut down for that long, especially since we were barely making it before the pandemic hit. However, we will keep on doing what we love doing so much.
