Mission Statement
Founded in 1986, The Prentice School empowers bright children with learning differences to fulfill their potential as students and citizens. Not only are our credentialed teachers qualified to meet the needs of our student population, they are passionate and dedicated to nurturing their growth and development as individuals and life-long learners. As a private, non-profit school fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges, The Prentice School has established a reputation as one of the leading schools for students with learning differences.
About This Cause
Founded in 1986, Prentice has provided a life-changing education to more than 5,000 students who benefit from our academic remediation and intervention services. The Prentice School serves learners from kindergarten through eighth grade who learn differently. We believe in teaching to our student's strengths through research-based methods and multisensory instructional strategies. Our program is designed to deliver curriculum in a manner that is intensive, explicit, systematic, cumulative, and structured. Academics are tailored to meet our students' needs, whether they are at, below, or above grade level. A small class environment engages students and encourages them to explore learning in a way that is conducive to the individual student's learning style. We offer an unparalleled learning experience to students whose needs have not been met in the more traditional classroom setting. Examples of terms used to describe the learning differences found at Prentice are: dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, specific learning disability, language-based learning disorder, auditory or visual processing disorder, ADHD, weaknesses in working memory, processing speed, or executive functioning, organizational challenges, and anxiety. We are committed to supporting our students in the classroom and beyond. We have a robust support services program that includes speech and language services, occupational therapy, a school psychologist, academic assessments, transition counseling, after school tutoring, before and after school extended care, parental workshops, and a summer school and summer camps.
