Mission Statement

Mercy House exists to be a leader in ending homelessness by providing a unique system of dignified housing opportunities, programs, and supportive services.

About This Cause

Mercy House was founded in 1988 by Father Jerome T. Karcher with a vison to serve the homeless in our local community. Grounded in the belief that every person is born with inherent dignity and that homelessness is an affront to that dignity, our mission to end homelessness has informed our decisions and guided our strategic growth into our third decade of operation. To this day, Father Jerome serves as Chairman or our Board of Directors. Our first employee, Larry Haynes, remains our first and only Chief Executive Officer. The goal of every one of Mercy House’s programs is simple: to end homelessness for all who enter our unique system of care. Since our start of service in 1990, Mercy House has grown from a single transitional housing program housing 10 homeless, single men to a complete system of care designed to meet the needs of the homeless and those at-risk of homelessness through emergency shelters, transitional facilities, and permanent supportive residences.
