Mission Statement
Child Advocates of San Bernardino County also known as C.A.S.A. of San Bernardino County's mission is to improve the quality of life for foster youth with stable and consistent advocacy and mentoring provided through trained and professionally supported community volunteers.
About This Cause
C.A.S.A. of San Bernardino County was formed in 1984 and incorporated in 1989. C.A.S.A. of San Bernardino County recruits, screens, trains, and supervises community volunteers to positively impact the lives of foster children through mentoring and child welfare advocacy in the court, health, and education systems. C.A.S.A. impacts children/youth ages 5-21 living in all 31 cities and unincorporated areas of the county. C.A.S.A. particularly serves fragile youth amongst the already vulnerable foster youth population. The youth that are referred to C.A.S.A. include youth who are: pregnant and parenting, on probation, in need of physical developmental and mental health care, transition-age (emancipating) youth, youth who have suffered extreme abuse and neglect, youth that are in danger of failing and or dropping out of school, youth that have little to no familial connections and or meaningful relationships, and who are victims of trafficking. C.A.S.A. volunteers commit to advocating and mentoring a youth in foster care for a minimum of 18 months for 10-15 hours a month. CASA volunteers mentor youth by challenging them, inspiring them and motivating them. In a child welfare system experience that is constantly changing: change in social workers, change in schools, change in placements, a CASA volunteer is the one consistent figure in the child's life who is always there to help them manage the difficulties and challenges of foster care. C.A.S.A. volunteers gather important information as it relates to their appointed youth and prepare court reports and court recommendations that are submitted at every court hearing in order to improve the child's experience in care an to insure that they are receiving the proper services and interventions needed. C.A.S.A. volunteers provide a voice for each youth helping transform a life of tragedy into a life of hope.
