Mission Statement
International Bible Baptist Church (IBBC) is a vibrant, Bible–based and ethnically diverse congregation that has been peacefully serving National City for the past 25 years. We go further outside the walls of IBBC as we witness the good news of God’s power and love to communities everywhere through faithful service. We connect and impact people’s lives with our various ministries, namely: Vacation Bible School, Home Bible Studies, Care Ministry (to the Sick, Disabled, Shut in, and those with dreaded diseases), Youth Leadership, Ministry to the Homeless, Global Missions, and others. Our current flagship project is the construction of a building for our education ministry, the Community Center for Academic Excellence, Inc. (CCAEI). This will provide an excellent venue for our children's ministry projects, for the youth leadership programs and also to various anonymous groups that need a place to meet in National City. We endeavor to use our facilities and our gifts to help build better lives.
About This Cause
The International Bible Baptist Church and Academy (IBBCA) was planted in April 1992 by Pastor Benjamin N. Plata in National City, San Diego, California. The young church’s beginnings were modest, with services held at the Plaza Galeria, Salvation Army on Sweetwater Road and other temporary locations. This happened for three years until God led the church to a property in National City, and eventually IBBCA held her first service at her new home at #616 East 8th Street. IBBCA has seen many people accept Christ as their personal Savior and numerous baptisms have added to the church membership. We have also put the Gospel into the hands of tens of thousands of people with our outreach ministries. There are numerous “city-transforming” ministry services that are meant to help change lives for the better. The harvest is ready and there is a bumper crop waiting for the reaping. In September 2012, Pastor Plata shared with the congregation a vision for the construction of a school building which will be the new home of International Bible Baptist Academy. Praise God for the wonderful steady growth that has unfolded in these past 25 years. Our Mission and Vision: To preach the gospel To equip the saints To establish the body of Christ To bring deliverance, renewal and hope to our families, homes and communities! Ministries: Our Community Connection IBBC offers a multitude of ministries in which the whole family can participate in discipleship. No matter your story, whether you’re an adult or a child, there is something for you in the community. We would love you to join us. Youth Leadership This is a network of groups gathering young adults that meet once a week at church and in high school and college campuses and once a month in a home. We to celebrate all that God is doing -- with worship and an engaging message. Importance is given for leadership training, discussions about spirituality, studying God’s Word, and organizing social events for serving opportunities. Children’s Ministry We partner with parents to help raise a biblically-literate, devoted, ethical future Christian leaders. Our desire is to reinforce the spiritual values taught in the homes through instruction, quality activities and meaningful relationships with other children and adults. Children are active and curious that is why age appropriate learning is set up to engage them to story time and play experiences while they enjoy a corporate time of worship. Nursery Our youngest kids are nurtured and loved while their parents and guardians take time out for their spiritual growth. The people who take care of these children are a group of care-giving volunteers. We maintain the experience of a safe and loving atmosphere for them as Bible stories, games and snacks are shared. Members and visitors are welcome. Prayer Ministry Members and non-members who need hope and strength come to us for intercessory corporate prayer meeting which is held every Wednesday at 6:30PM, at the Sanctuary. The whole congregation comes together and offer prayers for: Those who are sick as well as their loved ones Members and friends who are on active military and marine duty Job seekers The church, families, church ministries, children, weekly services Building of Faith project Vacation Bible School (Annual) Daily Vacation Bible School (DVBS) is a popular and fun filled summer activity for Christians and non-Christians alike that the International Bible Baptist Church offers to connect with the community of National City. This is an outreach meant to bring in children and their families who don’t normally attend church. Nearly every church across the United States undertakes this program every summer. Our goal of conducting DVBS is to teach children the truth of God’s Holy Word and get them involved. It is an extremely important factor in keeping children, students, and even adults, busy, engaged and active in the church and community, even long after the summer program has ended. Another positive impact to the families is in the emphasis of teaching leadership and good moral character to the children. We stand in our belief that possessing good character is like having a compass to a ship that would guide these young people to become future good leaders and useful citizens of the community. Saturday Devotion Most prominent in our Baptist emphases are the fundamental importance of the Holy Bible and the individual Christian’s healthy relationship with God. In our Saturday devotion, we study the Bible line by line, meditate and share our blessings from the Scripture. Every verse becomes animated and engaging as the Word of God is taught to us. Not only adults are in regular attendance every Saturday, but we have representatives from every level of Sunday school classes -- graders, teenagers, college and career, senior adults, even nursery! After filling our hearts and spirits with the Word of God, Saturday Devotion is immediately followed by a sumptuous Fellowship Breakfast where we fill our bellies with good food and simply enjoy warm camaraderie with the brothers and sisters present. Saturday Visitation Ministry Our church is continually in the process of equipping people for discipleship and servant leadership to the community. By the grace of God, our brothers and sisters, young and old alike, join hands and participate in this ministry. We feel it is important to carry the love of God to our neighbors. We knock on doors, distribute Gospel tracts, visit people, disciple people, witness to the unsaved, share the Scriptures and invite everyone to the Sunday services. Gospel Tract Distribution We are compelled to seek out those who are lost and impart to them the Good News. Remarkably, there are still so many people around that have not heard the Gospel message of salvation. And, while we are actively involved in supporting Missions abroad, one way we partner in this noble endeavor is through our local efforts of continuous soul winning and soul warning through the Gospel Tract Ministry. “OPERATION NATIONAL CITY” was launched to saturate the whole city with Gospel Tracts and even beyond its boundaries. Long after the drive was over, IBBCA continues to persevere. The message is given out in three popular languages -- English, Spanish and Tagalog -- so that everybody will have the opportunity to read and understand the meaning of salvation in their respective language. Home Bible Studies Small groups meet in the homes and senior facilities like the Friendship Manor. We gather to worship, community singing and study the Word of God. As we grow spiritually, families, friends and neighbors are being reached and strengthened as we minister to them. Men’s Group Here at IBBCA, we seek God first. The Men’s Group is here to help discover a man’s strengths as a husband, father, and leader. We recognize that every man has an innate desire to be part of something bigger than himself. The group meets bi-monthly for After Work Fellowship. They are also active in the building maintenance projects and other special events. We want to empower men to impact their workplace, communities and their families for the kingdom of God. Transportation Ministry The transportation ministry has been responsible for bringing hundreds of people to IBBC for 25 years now. Every Saturday for Devotion and community outreach activities there is someone available to pick up interested people and volunteers. On Sundays and Wednesdays, for the worship services, our faithful members have been relentless in making sure that senior folks, disabled, even ordinary people have the conveyance service to safely go to church and worship God. Some are even persistent, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, in inviting people so that they, too, will come to know Christ in a personal way. Ministry of Care to the Sick The Church ministers to the sick, disabled, elderly and homebound members. During our visits, they are prayed for as a source of strength and comfort for the times of illness, deteriorating health, old age or inability to leave home. By sharing the love of God in fellowship, we promote the hope of healing, encouragement and a sense of belonging and connection to the body of Christ. Ministry to the Homeless Members of our congregation hand out bags containing many items needed for everyday use and warm blankets for the chilly winter season. These bags are distributed to the homeless around the city. Global Missions, and others It is the absolute duty and eminent privilege of every Christian to proclaim the Gospel of Salvation to the world. IBBC values what God values – the missions. That is why, for the whole month of August, IBBCA celebrates her role and commitment to this noble enterprise. The church has supported missionaries in Canada, Mexico, the Philippines as well as individual pastors and ministers. Future plans Our current flagship project is the construction of a building for our education ministry, the Community Center for Academic Excellence, Inc. (CCAEI). This will provide an excellent venue for our children's ministry projects, for the youth leadership programs and also to various anonymous groups that need a place to meet in National City. We endeavor to use our facilities and our gifts to reaching out to the community at large with the life changing message of Jesus Christ. However, God’s plan for IBBCA reaches much deeper and wider than the local community. Pastor Plata dreams of having a recording studio for the church’s Gospel album releases and of expanding the church property to meet her ever increasing needs. Soon, countless people will be able to hear the life-transforming truth of God’s Word in her website. We wait in awe and wonder to see God’s plan come to fruition as IBBCA grows in faith and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ. As the future becomes the present, our goal is to be found faithful, walking in daily obedience to Him, carrying out our mission to preach the Gospel, evangelize and send out soul winners for the glory and honor of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
