Mission Statement

MAR3INE is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that supports and raises money for the Marine Mammal Care Center, Los Angeles (MMCC). MMCC is a hospital for sick and injured marine mammals that are stranded along the Los Angeles County coastline. Located in San Pedro, MMCC primarily treats and releases rescued California sea lions, northern elephant seals, Pacific harbor seals, and northern fur seals.

About This Cause

MAR3INE relies upon membership contributions, donations, grants, and special events to support marine mammal rehabilitation. Over the last 20 years, over 300 MAR3INE members have directly contributed to the rehabilitation of thousands of marine mammals in need. Recent Accomplishments - Assisting in facility renovations, redesigning the gift shop, and upgrading new educational space - Sponsoring the construction of pen enclosures that can accommodate an additional 32 animals - Supporting volunteer and temporary staffing efforts in the busy season - Purchasing medical equipment (x-ray machine) to ensure proper diagnosis for marine mammals needing care - Securing partial funding for the renovation of the cooling units, which runs the freezer for storing 60,000-80,000 lbs. of food (fish) each year - Supplying laboratory supplies and medicine for injured pinnipeds - Communicating with over 2,500 community members, who are devoted to marine animal rehabilitation - Assisting with fundraising efforts and events like Party for Pinnipeds and Seal Day
