Mission Statement

Mission Statement: Changing social beliefs, attitudes and the behaviors that perpetuate domestic violence while creating a safe space in which to empower individuals and families affected by abuse.

About This Cause

Laura’s House was established in 1994 to provide direct services and prevention/education and community outreach activities addressing the issue of domestic violence to all of Orange County (with a population of 3.2 million) and the surrounding regions of southern California. Our mission is: Changing social beliefs, attitudes and the behaviors that perpetuate domestic violence while creating a safe space in which to empower individuals and families affected by abuse. Over the past 29 years, we have provided shelter with support services for nearly 7,000 abused men, women, and their children and non-residential direct services including 24-hour crisis intervention, counseling, life skills education, and legal assistance for over 75,000 persons. Our vision is to end the epidemic of domestic violence so that all individuals and families can lead safe and healthy lives free from abuse. Laura’s House successfully provides accessible programs and services that assist domestic violence survivors and promote community health and wellness, including our Emergency Shelter (providing a 24-hour hotline and crisis intervention, 45 days of shelter, food and clothing, case management, individual and family counseling, life skills training, and legal and social services advocacy for men, women, and their children who are fleeing intimate partner violence and would otherwise become homeless), Counseling and Resources (offering those who are not in need of shelter with individual and group counseling, case management, and social services referrals), Children’s Therapeutic Programs (providing counseling, educational activities, and daily child care for youth in crisis), a Transitional Living Center (providing six to twelve months of continued housing and assistance to Emergency Shelter graduates to help them establish long-term self-sufficiency), Legal Advocacy (assisting survivors in understanding and securing their legal rights), and Prevention/Education and Community Outreach (creating awareness about domestic violence through our Healthy Emotions and Attitudes in Relationships Today (H.E.A.R.T.) program for youths, our Man.Kind OC character development activity for young men, “Domestic Violence 101” presentations, our Healthy Families, Unpacking Family Systems, After Abuse, and Digital Safety online workshops, the 40-Hour State Certified Domestic Violence Advocate Training Program, and our presence at community events). Our Emergency Shelter and Transitional Living Center facilities are located at secure, confidential locations in south Orange County, our Domestic Violence Resource Center (DVRC) and corporate headquarters is in Aliso Viejo, and our Domestic Violence Advocacy Center (DVAC) is in Garden Grove. In 2022, we provided direct services to 5,883 persons (including 3,805 callers to our crisis intervention hotline, 345 residing at our Emergency Shelter, 32 residing at our Transitional Living Center, 872 accessing Counseling and Resources, and 829 receiving Legal Advocacy assistance) and 17,736 participated in prevention/education and community outreach activities.
