Mission Statement
UCP of Greater Cleveland provides valuable services to individuals from birth all the way through retirement with a continuum of programs that meet their needs at each stage of life. The agency’s mission to empower children and adults with disabilities to advance their independence, productivity and inclusion in the community guides the development, delivery and enhancement of all of the agency’s programs. UCP of Greater Cleveland operates under the direction of five core values that inform all activities; being a client-centered agency that provides services with compassion, integrity and excellence in a collaborative manner. While the mission centers on the individual, programs do take into consideration the larger picture that involves family and community support, public awareness, individual advocacy and the overall personal growth of the client.
About This Cause
OakLeaf (formally known as Adult Services) serves approximately 500 clients each year, providing facility-based workshop and community employment programs to assist people with disabilities in overcoming obstacles to employment and community integration. Program staff work with each individual to identify their interests and employment goals, as well as developing their workplace skills. Programs operate with a presumption of employability for people with disabilities: meaningful work is available for every individual that wants to work at a level that meets their needs. UCP partners with companies in the community to provide individuals with employment opportunities and to encourage diversity and sensitivity in the workplace. UCP of Greater Cleveland also serves individuals with multiple or severe disabilities through OakLeaf Day Services. Individuals in this program receive daily living assistance and access to activities that help them acquire, retain or improve their maximum level of functioning with a focus on self-help, social and adaptive skills. Activities may include aquatic therapy, music therapy, art therapy, cooking classes, social events and community outings. The agency also recently implemented Senior Day Services, an activity-based program that provides a designated space for adults with disabilities as they transition to life as senior citizens. Individuals in this program receive daily living assistance and programming that includes activities that appeal to seniors, as well as opportunities for intergenerational events and community integration. In addition to employment services, UCP of Greater Cleveland’s OakLeaf provides twenty-four hour care for sixteen individuals with multiple or severe disabilities in two Group Homes. The agency offers personal care, homemaking services, community outings and other supports based on each individual’s level of need. UCP is dedicated to enabling adults with developmental disabilities to live a full life in the least restrictive way possible. LeafBridge (formally known as Children's Services) is the founding department of the agency and has remained at the heart of its mission for over sixty-five years, serving over 530 children and their families every year. Working as a team, licensed therapists and social workers collaborate with parents to design treatment programs that will promote their child’s physical, mental, and emotional development. Whether it is through therapeutic intervention that enables them to walk, read or communicate for the first time, organizing group activities to improve social skills and cooperation, or collaborating with other organizations in order to provide the best experience possible, UCP of Greater Cleveland provides services with each client’s best interests and individual needs in mind. The agency provides traditional and intensive therapy services including speech/language, physical and occupational therapy in both the clinic setting and in the school setting. Every family with a child being served is also provided with Case Management and Parent Education services to connect them with community resources and to advocate for their child in a variety of settings including doctor visits and school Individual Education Plan meetings.
