Mission Statement
The mission of the Rabbit Run Community Arts Association (RRCAA) is to provide to people of all ages in Northeast Ohio the opportunity to participate in quality and affordable programs, education and presentations in the visual and performing arts.
About This Cause
This organization is the result of the consolidation of two existing non-profit groups, the Western Reserve Fine Arts Association and the Friends of Rabbit Run Theater. Official approval of the consolidation was granted by the State of Ohio on November 21, 2000. The Rabbit Run Community Arts Association has approval as 501 (c3) by the IRS with a tax identification number of 34-1305784. The Western Reserve Fine Arts Association was formed in September 1969. The school for visual and performing arts began in 1978 in Madison's historic Town Hall (c. 1867). In 1979 WRFFA was incorporated and classified non-profit 501 (c3). Enrollment in art, music, dance and drama classes and lessons has increased consistently during the past 20 years. Rabbit Run Theater, first opened in 1946, is one of the few old barn theaters still operating in the country. In its early development, many famous actors, including Hume Cronyn, Jessica Tandy, Charles Grodin, Sandy Dennis, Dustin Hoffman, and Jim Backus, graced the barn theater's stage. With economic and population changes, attendance began to dwindle in the 1960's. The theater closed in 1967, but a group of interested citizens re-opened the theater in 1979 under the auspices of the Friends of Rabbit Run Theater. The new organization is actively involved in collaborations with other area groups including the Madison and Perry Local Schools, Madison and Perry Public Libraries, and various businesses including the Eastern Lake County Chamber of Commerce.
