Mission Statement

The Down Syndrome Association of Northeast Ohio (formerly Up Side of Downs of NEO) provides support, education, and advocacy for individuals with Down syndrome and their families, and communities.

About This Cause

The Down Syndrome Association of NEO (formerly USOD) is a not-for-profit organization that directly serves over 1,100 families in 16 counties along with hundreds of educators and medical professionals throughout Northeast Ohio. Established in 1982, a handful of parents whose children had Down syndrome began to meet informally for socialization and support. Over forty years later, with the help of many supporters, their vision and hard work have taken DSANEO from a grassroots parent movement to a staffed nonprofit organization. DSANEO envisions a community where people with Down syndrome have limitless opportunities and the ability to pursue their dreams. Currently, DSANEO provides +50 in-person/virtual programs to individuals with Down syndrome from newborn to adult age focused on Medical Outreach, Education, Family Support, Social Programs & Advocacy. Many of these programs are nominal or have no cost for the participant. We never want financial hardship to be the reason a family would not be able to attend so we also offer Family grants twice a year. Many of our in-person programs provide volunteer opportunities throughout the year.
