Mission Statement
The Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministries International (founded in 1978 and officially registered in the US in 1993) is a Christian Evangelical organization based on the reformed theology of the Bible, and its purpose is to evangelize the Gospel of Jesus Christ to people worldwide through a) large evangelistic citywide crusades/rallies, b) professional laymen theological training (institute, workshop and seminars), c) literature ministry through audio/visual media (Internet, DVD, VCD, CD, MP3, YouTube, Cassettes), d) oratorio society, e) local church establishment and promotion in certain areas. a) The large citywide evangelistic ministry has been held for the past 66 years by Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong who is recognized as one of the leading evangelists in the world and who has preached to more than 35 million people worldwide. Dr. Tong has also been invited to deliver addresses in many international conferences as the keynote speaker, including the World Reformed Congress in 2006, Second Lausanne Congress in 1989, and International Prayer Assembly in Seoul 1985 and as the Seminar Leader in Amsterdam 1986(Billy Graham Association sponsored). In May of 2008, Rev. Tong was awarded with an honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from the prestigious Westminster Theological Seminary in Philadelphia, PA for his long and faithful career of honoring God’s Word, Christ’s Gospel and the reformed theological heritage. It is the hope of this ministry that the Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministry International will provide strong organizational support in the United States for this historically established ministry of Dr. Tong. Rev. Tong and the Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministry International evangelistic team have been holding citywide crusades/rallies in major cities in the USA, North and South America, Europe, Asia, Australia and New Zealand which were attended by millions of people since its inception. b) Rev. Tong has been a professor of theology for professional seminary students for more than 25 years and has been giving seminars and lectures to Christian scholars, seminary students and laymen in major cities throughout the world. Those seminars were attended by thousands throughout the world. The Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministry International has been organizing lectures, seminars and workshop with the establishment of the Reformed Institute of Christianity and 21st Century in the US, Asia and Europe since 1996. c) The Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministry International has planned to promote and organize Oratorio Society in major cities throughout the US and worldwide. The purpose of the Oratorio Society is to encourage Christian singers, choirs and musicians to rehearse and perform works of sacred music from great composers in the highest standard. There are now Oratorio Societies in Jakarta and Surabaya, Indonesia, Los Angeles, San Diego, Singapore, Taipei, Washington DC which have been promoted by and associated with Rev. Tong’s ministry. Furthermore, in each city Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministry International has been holding crusades/rallies, it also established the joint citywide choir for the specific crusades/rallies. d) The Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministry International will help promote the establishment of local churches if there is a need.. The Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministry International already established local churches in the Reformed Evangelical tradition in Indonesia, Singapore, Europe, Australia, Taiwan, and in several cities in mainland China. There will also be a need to train local evangelistic and pastors. The constant investigation for these needs is a major undertaking of this ministry. Rev. Tong has designed and built a complex of the Reformed Evangelical Center, in Jakarta, Indonesia(the largest Moslem populated country in the world) which will include a 4700 seat Worship Sanctuary, 1700 seat John Calvin Auditorium, Theological Seminary, University, Museum, Concert Hall, and Chapel. e) In 2018 STEMI established a new Calvin Institute of Technology in Jakarta, Indonesia which will develop into Calvin University in the next few years. We have appointed established professors/lecturers who mostly hold Ph.D degrees in their respected field. Among them are graduates of the most prestigious universities in the US and Europe including UC Berkeley, U Connecticut, University of Washington. f) Rev. Dr. Stephen Tong’s more than 100 books have been published in Taiwan, Singapore, and Hong Kong and have been read by many people throughout the world. There were over 1500 of Dr. Tong’s sermons recorded on DVD, VCD, CD, MP3, Cassettes which have been heard by millions worldwide. The Stephen Tong Evangelistic Ministry International has been managing his literature and audio/video media distribution in the United States, Canada, Australia, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Singapore.
