Mission Statement
Since 2003, the Community Clinic has provided low-cost medical care for low-income, working, and uninsured adults in Bedford County (Shelbyville) Tennessee. The Medical Clinic opens approximately 54 hours per month: Tuesday—8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday—8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; last Thursday monthly for men’s wellness from 6:00-7:30 p.m.; first Thursday monthly for women's wellness from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.; second Thursday monthly for school physicals from 8:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Medical patients pay a $35 AEL lab fee. A dental clinic opened on January 1, 2021, for adults ages 19-90+ to receive cleanings, extractions, fillings, x-rays, partials, and dentures. Dental patients (19-64) pay a $50; patients 65+ pay a $25 appointment supply fee. A partnership with Meharry Medical College School of Dentistry provides a teaching site for fourth-year dental students. MMCSoD Dental Clinics are open bi-weekly from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. to serve TennCare and 65+ patients. A new CCSBC dentist was employed on July 1, 2023, to provide dental clinics on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. for individuals ages 19-64. TennCare adult dental services are provided for Bedford County adults. CCsBC provides FREE dental services for children ages 3-17 and Bedford County jail inmates. No medical or dental patient is denied services. CCsBC receives donations and grants to assist these individuals with their dental and medical fees and medications.
About This Cause
The Community Clinic provides low-cost dental and medical care for Bedford County adults ages 18-64+. Dr. Clement Aluyi, the medical director, supervises a staff of an executive director, a director of dental operations/dental assistant, a dentist, three clinic nurses, a physician assistant, two nurse practitioners, an office manager, and three Spanish translators. CCsBC provides FREE mammograms six times per year; monthly Women’s Wellness Programs; Monthly school physicals; FREE pap smears, FREE Mammograms, FREE LUNG CT Scans, FREE monthly diabetic education programs; FREE Diabetic Nutrition Classes; FREE monthly prostate programs for men; and other preventive medical procedures. Since January 1, 2021, the CCsBC Dental Clinic partnership with Meharry Medical College, School of Dentistry provides dental services for adults 19-64+. Dr. Julie Gray supervises the bi-weekly dental program for CCsBC. As a Tennessee Safety Net clinic, CCsBC provides cleaning, extractions, fillings, and x-rays; Smile 65+ provides cleaning, extractions, fillings, x-rays, dentures, and partials for adults 65+. The Delta Dental Smile 180 program provides FREE partials and dentures for adults. A $50/$25 supply fee is requested per dental visit. Some qualified patients receive FREE medical procedures, labs, x-rays, and ultra-sounds from the Vanderbilt Bedford Hospital Patient Assistance Program. Other patients qualify for $35 labs from AEL. CCsBC provides $10 employee physicals for individuals seeking employment; children's school physicals for $10; and FREE dental services for ages 3-18. FY23 CCsBC patient encounters: 2,335 (medical—1,357 and dental 978 [326% FY23 increase]),(34 pediatric encounters and 49 school physicals). CCsBC is open approximately 54 hours monthly to provide flexible patient scheduling. The CCsBC has partnerships with Bedford County Government (provides FREE rent, maintenance, wi-fi, and utilities), the City of Shelbyville; Tyson Foods, Vanderbilt Bedford Health Care, and Walgreens.
